Talk with Children

As a child I was completely unaware of so many things, even that you had to pay for electricity! My parents never really talked with us about anything practical or even emotional for that matter.

I may have swung the pendulum a bit too far, at least according to one of my adult children, but I tried to always share with them the truths about our life. They knew when there was no money, or when I was scared, or why we had to move again. Mostly, I instilled in them the practice of loving someone. My children have teased me in recent years about my “forcing” them to hug each other and say good night, every night, even if you’re angry. Today their young adult children do the same – hugs and love are abundant in my life now. I wish I had had more of them from my parents when I was young.
